Our Staff
While patients come in to see our doctors, we know that having friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable staff contributes to the overall satisfaction of the patient. We are proud to say that some of our staff have been with Black Mountain Orthopaedics for over 15 years! Each member of our staff takes pride in the work they do and are committed to quality patient care.

Our office is equipped with an X-ray unit, which provides our doctors with immediate information about the specific area of concern, while at the same time making it convenient for our patients.

Description of Services

Both Dr. Fontes and Dr. Ravitch are trained in a multitude of orthopedic procedures. The following are just a few of the services they provide:

Arthroplasty
Dr. Fontes and Dr. Ravitch offer a full-range of hip, knee, and shoulder replacement services utilizing the latest techniques (including mini-incision) and bearing surfaces (poly and ceramic). St. Rose Hospital has partnered with orthopedic surgeons to develop joint replacement centers at both campuses to streamline the rehabilitation process while maximizing patient comfort, safety and satisfaction.

Arthroscopy
New technologies continue to expand the range of problems that can be addressed arthroscopically. We have moved to fully arthroscopic rotator cuff repair in many cases. Arthroscopic shoulder stabilization procedures and arthroscopic treatment of shoulder impingement are now routine. Ankle arthroscopy is also now commonly performed for early arthritis, bone spurs, loose bodies and osteochondral injuries. We offer a full range of knee reconstruction options including anterior and posterior cruciate reconstruction, meniscal repair and osteochondral reconstruction.

Trauma
Dr. Fontes was an assistant professor at the University of California, San Francisco for four years and specialized in trauma and post-traumatic reconstructions. He concentrated in mini-invasive plating techniques and Ilizarov surgery for the treatment of malunions and non-unions. He is currently one of nine orthopedic surgeons covering trauma call at the UMC Level-I trauma center.

Foot and Ankle
While at UCSF, Dr. Fontes co-managed the foot and Ankle division and has extensive experience with complex forefoot and hindfoot reconstructions, including revision surgery.
